Actor wins role on tour with Welsh National Opera

South Wales Evening Post, 13 October 2010

A SWANSEA actor must be feeling like the cat’s whiskers after landing a role on a prestigious tour with the Welsh National Opera.

Brendan Purcell will travel across England and Wales with the WNO’s production of the Mozart opera The Magic Flute.

The 27-year-old from Pontlliw is a former student of Swansea’s Class Act Theatre School – Cats.

“This production of The Magic Flute is great to be part of and another wonderful opportunity for me to learn more about this business” he said.

“There’s tremendous quality throughout the cast and crew.”

Brendan attended Bishop Vaughan Roman Catholic Comprehensive School and Gorseinon College before accepting a place to study acting at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Other than opera, he has appeared in S4C shows including drama Caerdydd, in theatre, on radio and in short films. He previously appeared with the WNO two years ago.

“We have been rehearsing since August at the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff and it has come together brilliantly,” said Brendan.

Jill Williams, principal of Swansea’s Class Act Theatre School, praised her former student.

She said: “Brendan is a superb talent who works hard at his craft and was always a willing student.

“All of us at Cats wish him the very best for this tour.”
