Helping Haiti

South Wales Evening Post, 20 May 2010

DISNEY and Stephen Sondheim gems will be sung at a fundraising night on Sunday to raise cash for Haiti.

More than 120 students from the Class Act Theatre Group will gather at the Swansea Lions Club night at St James Church, Uplands, to sing highlights from favourite musicals including Godspell, Into The Woods, and the latest Broadway draw, 13.

Lions Clubs across the UK have already donated more than £200,000 to the Haiti relief fund, and they are pleased to keep the focus on the island, with its complex clean-up programme still in motion.

Swansea group president Terry James said they were happy to team up with CATS to add to the pot.

“We have a enjoyed a long relationship with CATS and know that their skill and energy will guarantee a superb evening,” he added.

“Lions all around the world have been helping out with the Haiti relief work, so we’re very happy to be playing our own small part in that effort.”

CATS principal Jill Williams said: “We were thrilled to be invited by the Lions to create An Evening At The Musicals.

“It should be a fine celebration of some world-renowned shows.

“It will also help us as we prepare for our own summer productions of Godspell and 13 at the Grand Theatre.”

In March, a Cats stage production at Pontardawe Arts Centre boosted the Haiti appeal by £300.

You can buy your tickets for Sunday’s show at St James on the door.
