Cast prepares for holy roles

A SWANSEA teen will step into the sandals of the son of God on Saturday, when Class Act Theatre School puts on a spirited performance of Godspell.

17-year-old Gorseinon College student Geraint Morgan steps up to play Jesus Christ in the hit 1970s musical.

He said: “I can’t wait for our shows. I know that some actors like Steve Balsamo have portrayed Christ superbly in the past and I’ll take inspiration from that.

“A role like this is always going to attract attention but I’m just delighted to have been given the chance to play the part.

“I’ve played Jesus once before in a primary school Nativity play when I was about 10 but the CATS version will be a much more modern portrayal of the character.”

The company is also gearing up for a production of 13 from Wednesday, July 13, to Saturday, July 17.

School principal Jill Williams said: “Our older students have risen wonderfully to the challenge of using Godspell to tell the story of Jesus and his disciples in a thoroughly modern way.

“With 13, their younger colleagues have created a show of high energy and high quality, presenting a storyline that will resonate with all who’ve learned so much from their teenage years.

“Both productions are impressive ensemble pieces.”

Godspell goes ahead at Swansea Grand Theatre on Saturday at 2:30pm and 7:30pm.
